Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I'm new to curling. Can I still join?
Absolutely! New curlers are always welcome. Whether you've never stepped on the ice or are returning after a break, we have leagues and programs designed for all experience levels.
Do I need to have a team?
No. You can register as an individual or as a team. If you register on your own, our league representatives will do their best to place you on a team.
What should I wear?
Dress in warm, comfortable layers that allow you to move freely. Ice level temperatures are approximately 5°C. We recommend:
- A light jacket or fleece
- Comfortable pants with plenty of flexibility
- Thin gloves (optional but recommended)
- Clean indoor running shoes
Do I need my own equipment?
No. The Lacombe Curling Club provides loaner brooms and sliders free of charge for members and beginners. As you continue curling, you may choose to purchase your own equipment.
Why do I need clean indoor shoes?
Clean shoes help protect the ice and ensure the best playing conditions for everyone. Please bring a separate pair of indoor shoes that have not been worn outside.
How early should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled draw time. This gives you enough time to change your shoes, warm up, and get your equipment ready before play begins.
What if I can't make one of my games?
If you're unable to attend, please arrange for a spare as early as possible. A spare list is available through the club to help teams find replacement players.
If your team needs to cancel a game, please notify the opposing team, the Ice Maker, and the Club Manager as soon as possible. This helps us avoid preparing an unused sheet of ice and, when possible, allows teams in a later draw to move up to an earlier time. Your advance notice is greatly appreciated and helps keep our operations running smoothly.
Are there leagues for different ages and skill levels?
Yes! The club offers leagues for juniors, youth, adults, seniors, stick curling, sturling, recreational players, and competitive curlers. There's something for everyone.
Can I try curling before committing to a full season?
Watch our website and social media for Learn-to-Curl programs, open houses, and fun leagues throughout the season. These are a great way to experience the sport before joining a league.
Can I bring food or drinks onto the ice?
Only water is permitted on the ice surface. Food and other beverages should remain in designated lounge areas.
Can I rent the club for a group or corporate event?
Yes! The Lacombe Curling Club offers ice rentals, lounge rentals, and full facility rentals for corporate events, family gatherings, fundraisers, and special occasions.
How do I register or ask a question?
Registration information is available on our website. If you have any questions, contact the Lacombe Curling Club office—we're always happy to help you get started.
What is a bonspiel, and how do I register?
